Manager Investment Analysis

What will you be doing?
Conduct economic analysis to assist investment decision making and provide analytical support for developing competitive transaction structures. Support various corporate activities including rail fleet optimization, treasury, portfolio management and product development. Evaluate the profitability and the overall impact of proposed domestic and international investments. Provide direct support to deal teams, portfolio management, tax, accounting, forecasting, operations and treasury personnel in transaction structuring, reporting, and management processes.

What is the scope of your work?
Investment Analysis Manager (“Manager”) performs after-tax economic analysis of proposed domestic and international investments including: single investor structures, lease-in lease-out structures, lease syndications, portfolio and on-going business acquisitions. Economic analyses are performed utilizing proprietary models, occasionally unique spreadsheet models are developed which incorporate quantitative analysis techniques. May also build large scale spreadsheet models to evaluate portfolio transactions for acquisition of assets or businesses. All of the models may require understanding and developing future business projections, including residual values, market lease rates and operating expenses.
May conduct international and domestic tax and accounting research to ensure transactions are properly modeled. Often evaluates the accounting impact of an investment as an integral part of the analysis.
As a key member of a deal or project team, the Manager participates in many aspects of the deal structure development and closing processes in addition to providing the economic analysis. The Manager interacts with all levels of the Company including senior and middle management, deal advocates, portfolio and fleet management staff, and internal specialists (Accounting, Treasury, Corporate and Tax) as a project leader.
The economic analysis performed, is an extremely important aspect of investment decision making and therefore, error-free results are expected. Must be able to work with a minimum amount of supervision, take initiative to research issues, lead, organize and supervise projects, solving problems, and producing accurate work through self-checks. Must also be able to communicate assumptions, results, issues and solutions in a clear and concise manner to all levels of the organization.
May be responsible for multiple active transactions at any one time and must be able to prioritize in order to meet multiple and often conflicting deadlines.
Participates in special projects in all areas of the company, e.g. to provide analysis to quantify the impact of changes in tax law or tax status on our portfolio or potential domestic and international investments or operational considerations.
Will train, coach, mentor and may supervise junior and senior Investment analysts reviewing their work contributing to their development and progress and conduct yearly performance reviews. The manager will prepare and hold presentations for training purposes for peers and other individuals regarding investment analysis perspectives and methods.
What is required of you?
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Transportation, Mathematics, Economics, or Statistics required
- MBA or equivalent advanced degree or certification with an emphasis in finance or accounting
- A minimum of 7 years of experience as an analyst with a focus on leasing, investment and risk analysis, tax, financial services, capital markets or accounting
- Excellent understanding of financial concepts and capital market theory
- Excellent understanding of relevant tax concepts and accounting principles
- Exposure to statistical analysis, probability theory and simulation techniques
- Advanced level Excel and modeling skills and general level skills of Office Suite (Word and Power Point)
- Experience in design, development, testing and implementation of applications with Visual Basic is desirable
- Experience with database management systems and lease pricing models a plus
