Rouse: Used Equipment Values Decline for Twelfth Consecutive Month

The April Rouse Value Index™ for used equipment prices decreased to 43.2, down 0.4% from March values. The decrease is the twelfth consecutive month of declines. The April value is down 7.9% from the mid-2015 peak of 46.9, and is now below the April 2007 peak of 43.3. However, the April 2016 Rouse Value Index™ remains 45.5% higher than the prior trough period of 29.7 in June 2009. The Rouse Value Index™ measures the average Orderly Liquidation Values for benchmark models across fourteen major rental category indices on a monthly basis.

April auction sales of rental and construction equipment tracked by Rouse averaged 9.3% lower than Rouse March FLV values. Units sold in April (~3,750 units sold at 40 separate auction sales) represented a combined FLV (as of March 31st) of $94.3 million and generated $85.5 million of gross auction proceeds. Categories of equipment prevalent in general rental fleets (e.g., small- and mid-sized earth moving and aerial equipment) averaged 3.8% lower than March FLV values. Heavier equipment  categories (e.g., large earth moving and mining equipment) averaged 12.2% lower than March FLV values.
