Used Class 8 truck same dealer sales volumes continued to show volatility in August, yet remained on a positive trend, including a 19% increase over July. Enhanced by the latter, long term comparisons show 2016 being off by only 2% year-to-date, according to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research.

“Higher than normal late summer sales could signal truck buyers are opting to purchase used trucks over new ones,” said Steve Tam, ACT’s Vice President-Commercial Vehicle Sector. He added, “Strong sales were a common theme across all three market segments, with retail posting a 12% increase month-over-month, and wholesale and auction improving 33% and 59% month-over-month, respectively.”

The report from ACT provides data on the average selling price, miles, and age based on a sample of industry data. In addition the report provides the average selling price for top-selling Class 8 models for each of the major truck OEMs – Freightliner (Daimler); Kenworth and Peterbilt (Paccar); International (Navistar); and Volvo and Mack (Volvo).

ACT is the worldwide leading publisher of new and used commercial vehicle (CV) industry data, market analysis and forecasting services for the North American market, as well as the U.S. tractor-trailer market and the China CV market.
