In this exclusive interview with Kirk Phillips, President & CEO of Wintrust Commercial, Phillips reflects on lessons learned during a challenging year and how the Wintrust team succeeded in 2020 despite a quickly evolving environment impacted by the pandemic. According to Phillips, competition is and will remain fierce in the middle-market/large ticket segment of the equipment finance industry requiring creative structuring and often the entire team engaging in the business onboarding process. Phillips also provides his outlook for the industry as we move into a newly stimulated economy.

Kirk Phillips is President and CEO of Wintrust Commercial Finance. His 30-year career includes positions at ITT Commercial Finance, Transamerica Equipment Financial Services and AIG Commercial Asset Finance. He has held roles in credit underwriting, direct sales and executive management.

Kirk has been a speaker and moderator at ELFA, Marine Money International, Marine Money Offshore and Workboat conferences due to his expertise in maritime and offshore finance. He has been Chairman of the Financial Institutions BSCS and has served on the ELFA’s Membership Committee, Advocacy Committee and Academic Outreach committees. He has been a Guest Lecturer at, and sits on the Executive Advisory Board of, the Nelson Rusche College of Business at Stephen F. Austin State University and has been a strategic advisor to HEROMakers, a nonprofit providing support for orphans located in Latin America. He holds a BBA and MBA in Finance from SFA.
