This year, one of the most common crimes committed against Americans is hacking. Cybercrime continues to escalate, and it’s currently ranking as the second most reported crime. This cyber-crime is rapidly turning into a global industry, and people are not sitting with their hands crossed. In the past few years, Mr. Fishman, a noted NY attorney, has seen thousands of cyber-crime complaints. Since now it’s easier than ever before to get connected to Wi-Fi, hackers have more ways to steal personal information. 

Cybercrime is a serious criminal offense, although it’s committed through a computer. While digital technology continues to transform the world of business, more and more organizations are being exposed to both opportunities and threats. Cybercrime is already a kind of industry. People that commit cyber-attacks operate same as any other trained criminal organization, According to Mr. Fishman, this will only make cyber security more difficult. 

Still, there are various options that can help you to protect yourself or your business from a cybercriminal. First and foremost, you need to be proactive in reducing cyber-attacks.  People’s ignorance is part of the problem, and cyber criminals look precisely for such vulnerable individuals. If you are not familiar with the problem, you can easily be tricked into revealing your passwords or other information without even knowing.

To follow is some advice on how you can avoid falling victim to cyber scams - Do not respond to random emails claiming that you have won a prize or inherited money.

Keep your identity document safe; travel with certified copies.

Ensure your passwords are secure – use a combination of lower- and upper-case letters, numbers, and symbols.

Banking related fraud, which includes phishing schemes, copycat sites, and false SMS notifications, which result in consumers divulging confidential information.

Keep your computer’s operating system up to date.

Don’t open suspicious emails or attachments.

Keep three copies of data, two locally on an external storage device and one at a different location.

Make sure your anti-virus software is up to date.
