According to the latest Sandhills Global market reports for used construction equipment, farm machinery, trucks, and trailers on Sandhills platforms in September, inventory levels are leveling out for both heavy-duty and medium-duty construction equipment. An upward trend in inventory levels also continued for used aerial lifts, forklifts, and telehandlers.

Used heavy-duty construction equipment values are still trending down at a steady rate, and used medium-duty equipment values have begun leveling out, posting modest monthly changes in September.

Among used farm equipment categories, inventory levels of tractors, combines, and compact and utility tractors are trending down, while sprayer and planter inventory levels are trending sideways. Asking and auction values were up in September for used planters, with mixed results in other categories. For example, used combine harvester values rose month over month, with asking prices trending down and auction values trending sideways.

Decreases in inventory levels, asking prices, and values continued in September for used heavy-duty trucks, medium-duty trucks, and semi-trailers. The sharpest inventory level decreases occurred in the used day cab category (M/M) and the used sleeper truck category (year over year).

The key metric in all of Sandhills’ market reports is the Sandhills Equipment Value Index (EVI). Buyers and sellers can use the information in the Sandhills EVI to monitor equipment markets and maximize returns on acquisition, liquidation, and related business decisions. The Sandhills EVI data include equipment available in auction and retail markets and model-year equipment actively in use. EVI spread measures the percentage difference between asking and auction values.
