Georgia’s Own Credit Union Names Broome as President and CEO

November 02, 2026, 07:11 AM

Georgia’s Own Credit Union has announced the appointment of Eric S. Broome as its next president and chief executive officer. Broome previously served as executive vice president and brings more than 21 years of credit union industry experience, a deep understanding of the organization and a commitment to putting member-owners first. Broome succeeds Dave Preter, who served in the role for nearly 18 years.

In his former role, Broome oversaw strategic planning and a broad range of functions, including technology, risk management, lending, deposit and payments, retail operations and facilities. His leadership experience at Georgia’s Own also includes serving as chief operations officer, and chief risk officer & general counsel, giving him a comprehensive perspective on the organization’s strategy and long-term growth opportunities. Broome becomes the fifth president and CEO in the institution’s 92-year history.

“Eric brings a unique combination of strategic vision, expertise and a deep commitment to our member-owners and the credit union mission,” said Richard Burns, chair of the Georgia’s Own Credit Union board of directors. “His experience, integrity, and understanding of our organization position him well to lead Georgia’s Own into its next chapter while continuing to build on the strong, well-capitalized foundation we have established.”

Beyond his leadership at Georgia’s Own, Broome serves on the board of Member First Mortgage and the board of the Georgia’s Own Foundation. His experience also includes leadership and advisory roles within the credit union technology sector and professional organizations. A licensed attorney in Georgia, he holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi, as well as a Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law. He has furthered his leadership development through executive education at the University of Cambridge and Harvard Business School.

“I am honored and humbled to succeed Dave and continue serving the member-owners, employees and communities that make Georgia’s Own such a special organization,” said Broome. “Credit unions have a meaningful role to play in helping people achieve their financial goals, and I look forward to building on our strong foundation, investing in our people and member-owners and continuing to deliver on our mission of Banking on Purpose.”
