B. Riley Advisory Services, a provider of specialty business advisory services, announced it has expanded the firm’s appraisal and valuation services with the addition of a dedicated field examination practice. This experienced team specializes in developing company-specific field examination procedures in collaboration with lenders to support new and existing credit facilities.

B. Riley’s field exam practice is focused on providing clients with third-party objective evaluations of collateral to support asset-based lending activities, transaction due diligence, and risk assessment through comprehensive and disciplined field examinations. This new vertical enhances the end-to-end services B. Riley provides to lenders, private equity firms, and company borrowers as a service that can be performed in conjunction with inventory, machinery and equipment, and intellectual property appraisals.

“Our field examination practice not only strengthens our in-house appraisal capabilities but also provides incremental value to our clients through our ability to offer a more streamlined, holistic, and efficient process in the valuation of their collateral,” said Michael Marchlik, Co-CEO of B. Riley Advisory Services. “This product line group serves as a natural extension to our Advisory Services platform, and we look forward to growing this service under the leadership and expertise of Tom Scotti.”

The practice is led by Managing Director Thomas Scotti, a veteran valuation and field examination expert who has extensive experience performing field examinations for financial institutions servicing an array of industries.

Over the course of Scotti’s career, he has led and overseen the completion of over 2,500 asset valuations and hundreds of due diligence assignments for over 1,000 companies, both domestic and international. Prior to joining B. Riley in 2022, he was Executive Director at Hilco Global and previously worked at Gordon Brothers, Bank of America (predecessor Fleet Retail Finance), and Consensus Advisors. He earned his B.A. and M.B.A. from Columbia University, holds the Series 79 certification, and is a member of the Secured Finance Network (SFNet).

The field exam group leverages the resources and broad industry expertise of B. Riley’s appraisal and valuation professionals. Scotti and his team apply a cross-disciplinary approach in advising clients on matters related to financial due diligence, debt and equity raises, mergers and acquisitions, loan and transaction structuring, and risk management.
