First Commonwealth Bank has announced the appointment of Chief Operating Officer to its Commercial Banking leadership team.
Ann McCarthy-Garland, who has nearly two decades of executive leadership experience in banking credit and operations, was named to the position by Chief Banking Officer Mike McCuen as part of a succession alignment the bank has undertaken since the announcement of bank President/Chief Revenue Office Jane Grebenc was announced in August.
“I’ve known Ann as a creative problem solver and a great motivator of teams,” said McCuen. “We expect to leverage Ann’s experience in process improvement and project management across several areas of Commercial Banking. She will work closely with our credit teams to ensure we are delivering profitable growth to fulfill our mission of being the best bank for business.”
In her role, McCarthy-Garland will lead Treasury Management, Portfolio Management and Equipment Finance teams. She will also lead “field enablement” for commercial banking; ensuring the resources, tools and training are in place to support corporate banking Relationship teams and their customers.
McCarthy-Garland most recently held an executive leadership role as Head of Commercial Credit Products for a national bank. In that position, she led a team of approximately 200 professionals focused on underwriting and portfolio management for commercial banking customers of greater than $50 million in sales. She led the expansion of that team nationally to support several acquisitions. McCarthy-Garland also implemented automation to minimize processing time and improve risk visibility. Prior to that, she enjoyed leadership roles in Equipment Finance, Public Finance and their Equity Sponsor Group.
After graduating from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, McCarthy-Garland began her career as an engineer. She later earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Michigan.
