America First Federal Credit Union and Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU) announced they have entered into a merger agreement that will expand banking access, financial services and member benefits across Nevada.

By bringing together complementary branch networks in northern and southern Nevada, the combined organization will provide members with even more opportunities for financial growth and success, especially in rural communities. It will serve more than 1.6 million members through 135 branch locations, including 39 in Nevada, with more than $26 billion in assets. The merger is subject to customary regulatory requirements and approvals and is expected to be completed in late 2026.

Upon completion of the merger, GNCU will operate as Greater Nevada: A Division of America First Credit Union. All Greater Nevada branches will remain open and staffed by current employees. Members will continue to have access to the branches, products and services they use today. The merger will strengthen America First’s ability to serve members throughout Nevada while preserving the local relationships and community commitment that have long defined both credit unions. The combined organization will continue to provide members with convenient, in-person banking, while giving Greater Nevada members access to new products, services and opportunities.

“America First and Greater Nevada have built strong reputations of putting members first and investing in the communities they serve,” said Thayne Shaffer, president and CEO of America First Credit Union. “Together, we’ll build on that shared commitment by expanding access to convenient banking, trusted financial guidance and the products and services all members need to achieve their financial goals.”

Greater Nevada leaders said the merger will allow the credit union to continue its mission while offering members the advantages of a larger organization.

“Our mission has always been to improve the financial well-being of our members and strengthen the communities we serve,” said Danny DeLaRosa, president and CEO of Greater Nevada Credit Union. “Joining America First allows us to build on that mission by expanding opportunities for our members while preserving the local access and personal relationships that have always defined Greater Nevada.”

Founded in 1949 and headquartered in Carson City, Nevada, Greater Nevada Credit Union is a full-service credit union with more than 89,000 members and 13 branches, primarily located in northern Nevada. Greater Nevada is committed to the credit union philosophy of people helping people, and to improving the communities it serves.

Founded in 1939, America First has grown into one of the strongest and most progressive credit unions in the country. It is the seventh largest credit union in the nation with more than $26 billion in assets and 122 locations across Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah, serving over 1.5 million members. America First is dedicated to helping members achieve their financial goals while building stronger communities.
