Used Class 8 truck same dealer sales volumes fell in July, posting an 8% m/m drop, following a double-digit m/m increase in June, according to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research. Additionally, the report noted that sales were down year-over-year and year-to-date by a similar amount.

“Despite the volatility month to month, the overall trend is on an upward trek, with year-to-date volumes only 7% off last year’s numbers. Year-to-date declines over the last several months have been fairly consistent, possibly signaling a stabilization in volumes,” said Steve Tam, ACT’s Vice President-Commercial Vehicle Sector. He added, “Dealers are reporting an increase in customer traffic, but this has not led to surging sales.”

The report from ACT provides data on the average selling price, miles, and age based on a sample of industry data. In addition the report provides the average selling price for top-selling Class 8 models for each of the major truck OEMs – Freightliner (Daimler); Kenworth and Peterbilt (Paccar); International (Navistar); and Volvo and Mack (Volvo).

ACT is the worldwide leading publisher of new and used commercial vehicle (CV) industry data, market analysis and forecasting services for the North American market, as well as the U.S. tractor-trailer market and the China CV market. ACT’s CV services are used by all major North American truck and trailer manufacturers and their suppliers, as well as the banking and investment community.
